Pretty barren land out here at some points.

And here’s the gang. Yep...pretty cold today, and windy. July 1st!

A couple shots of the area. Notice the low cloud (fog) again in the 2nd photo.

This is the lighthouse, of course.

The Cape was important during the war as it protected St. John’s Harbour. Since it sticks out the furthest into the Atlantic, ships and other boats find it first and use it as a marker.
It was almost lunch time when we were done out here, so we headed into town to another spot our cab driver had recommended the day before. The YellowBelly Brew Pub.
Gerard and I shared a flight of their brews.
It’s Canada Day, so the George Street businesses put on a show for everyone. From 2 to 6 they have a “battle of the bands” on the stage and other things happening for kids and families. They have a large stage set up in the middle and bands had to audition to play there, or at least submit a resume if they’re well-known. We weren’t very keen on the band playing at the time. They were good, and very young, but not our kind of music. As the day progressed, the bands would get better and better.

Then they close the street after 6 (it is a small street with many, many bars), set up gates for entry, and charge $25/person to get onto the street. The bands from 7 on get better and better. Since we partook last night, we didn’t bother today. So we looked around a bit, then left to go get the oldest geocache in Newfoundland :)
Just north of St. John’s is the East Coast Trail. Yeah, who wants to bike up this trail?
Beautiful views of Logy Bay, with continual fog coming and going.
There’s an oceanic research facility here at the trailhead.
We hiked up the trail about a km or so (as the crow flies) with stunning views at times.
Foggy.
Not foggy.

It was a great hike to clear the head after yesterday :J
We could have gone into the oceanic facility, but by the time we were done, they were about to close. We made a mental note of it, but didn’t have an opportunity to visit.
Even though the head was cleared, we were all pretty tired. So we had a light dinner, then I, for one, went off to bed.
